The Moka Pot has been a staple in many households since 1933. It is hands down, one of the most iconic, and reliable coffee makers in the history of modern brewing. Since its conception, the original design from Bialetti has had very little changes up until recently, when new shapes and sizes came to the market. BonVivo's Inteca Stovetop Espresso Maker is one of the latter, serving the same espresso-like brew in the absence of the familiar eight side facade.
But don't be fooled by the Inteca's smooth and svelte design though, it delivers strong and flavorful coffee in a matter of minutes. It's compatible with both gas and electric stoves, and it can be easily stowed when you need to bring it elsewhere aside from your kitchen counter-top.
The copper chrome finish is also a fresh take on the age-old Moka Pot design, but before anything else let's take a quick look at its specifications.
At first glance, the bonVIVO Intenca Stovetop Espresso Maker looks like it was taken straight out of the future. The pot is accented by a copper or silver chrome finish, with the exception of the bottom valve that comes out of the box with a traditional aluminum styling.
Like the Moka Pot, it doesn't really brew real espresso, instead, it concocts a strong bodied coffee that can similarly mimic the latter's strong kick. The operation usually takes 5 to 10 minutes and bonVivo suggests that you put the stove on medium.
bonVIVO is made from stainless steel which conducts heat faster compared to aluminum. The added conductivity reduces the time to prepare the coffee, at least taking half of the actual time to prepare the decoction.
The Intenca can make up to 6 cups of full-bodied coffee. It's also relatively small with standing dimensions of 9.2 x 5.4 x 4.4 inches and weighing at 2.1 pounds, it's quite easy to stow.
Design wise, it contemplates well with any kitchen and its rounded facade is a far cry from the classic octagon shaped Moka Pot popularized by Bialleti in the early 1930s.
Ease of use is one of the bonVIVO Intenca Stovetop Espresso Maker's strongest suits, as with Moka Pots, all you need to do is prepare the grounds and the Intenca will do the rest. All of its components are dishwasher safe, but the company recommends hand washing to clean hard to reach crevices.
For its price, the Intenca is a solid entry-level coffee machine with a distinct look. If you're looking for a much modern looking version of the Moka Pot, you'd want to check out this svelte and sexy looking steeper.
The bonVIVO Intenca Stovetop Espresso Maker is a modernized version of the Moka Pot, and we like its fresh design. Aesthetically, it's a more fluid from the standard Bialetti pot and it steeps kick-ass coffee in just five to ten minutes.
The Intenca also creates a strong, and flavorful brew. It's also easy to operate, we replicated the process for at least 30 cycles and the results are consistent as they were at the first serving. It's also a cheaper alternative to most espresso machines, and it's easier to maintain.
It could have been a bonus if we can choose from a 3-cup, 6-cup, or 12-cup model. We've also found out that there are certain spots that are difficult to clean.
In some cases, users have reported issues with sealing. The company's quality control procedures could be improved because we've lately seen a surge of owners complaining about leaks coming from the bottom and the top of the pot.
If you're looking for an espresso maker that will not break your budget, the Moka pot is a perfect alternative to larger and more expensive machines. Although it does not steep espresso like the ones you order on a coffee shop, the pot's full-bodied and flavorful serving will surely be a hit.
We've previously reviewed other versions on True Coffee Addict, including the original Bialetti Moka Pot, but you can also check out the Bellemain 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker and the hybrid Delonghi EMK6 Alicia Electric Moka Espresso Coffee Maker.
The Moka Pot is an interesting and reliable coffee maker. You'll be able to make rich, strong velvety coffee within minutes. It might take a little while to master if you're a first timer, but if you do, you'll surely love every minute of the process.
The bonVIVO Intenca Stovetop Espresso Maker will surely be a good choice if you're looking for a budget coffee brewer that doesn't sacrifice style for substance. It's cheap, relatively easy to operate, and it looks like something taken from a Star Wars movie!
